Play the ‘copy game’ with me on instruments and other soundmakers

Start by copying me and then see if I will copy you; it may take a while for me to get the hang of it!

Once I can make sounds on instruments like the drum, tambourine or shaker, wait until I pause and then copy what I’ve just done
It may be a single tap or a bang or a shake, or it may be a series of them in a more or less regular beat
It may take a lot of repetition for me to get the connection – to realise that I can influence what you do
At first, it will be easier for me to understand what is happening if we share an instrument, so we are physically in contact with the same thing
Next, play the copy game using two different instruments that are identical – stay close to me so that I can see and feel what is going on
Once I’m able to copy a short pattern (’1, 2, 3’ tap son the drum, for example), then you could try copying what I do on a different instrument
