Play ‘call and response’ songs with me on instruments

Start by using the ‘call and response’ songs that we have already done vocally

Try using songs from Soundabout Music Tracks: Motifs to get things going
You could start by clapping short rhythms
Then transfer these short rhythms on to percussion instruments
Now try doing the same activity with melody instruments or on tablets …
… just two or three notes at first, singing along, from songs that I already know
Make up phrases up for me to copy
Next, use instruments on their own
Gradually make the phrases longer
You take the lead at first, then see if you can coax me into doing the same
Start one-to-one, and then increase to groups of three or four family members or friends
Record what happens so that I can listen later
